Marketing Information:

Now that your book has been published; it’s time for you to
                           begin marketing your title:

a.   A press release about the publication of your book should be
sent out to media outlets.

b.   Postcards and bookmarks featuring the cover art of your book.

c.   A home page for yourself or your book on the internet.

d.   Press kit – include: (author’s bio, photos, interviews, book
synopsis, cover art of book and information regarding purchasing
your book).

e.   Book signings – these can get your book and your face out in
front of the public. Independent bookstores are often very willing
to assist local authors in getting exposure and publicity.

f.    Discussion Boards – it is a good idea to network with other
authors. But do not join discussion boards just to market your
book. You should be active in the discussions.

g.   Newsletters – consider starting your own email newsletter; this
can be done by having people sign-up through your website. You
can also purchase a mailing list that relates to your book’s
subject from a mailing list service. Be sure to include a link to
your book in every issue of your newsletter and use the
newsletter to announce any new books.

h.   Flyers are an excellent, inexpensive way to promote your book.
What makes one flyer so much better than another?
•        Include a colored picture of the front cover of your book.
•        Hook your prospective buyers with the headline in the top line of
your flyer just as you do with the back cover of your book.
•        Include some juicy excerpts from your book.
•        Include your picture with a brief biography near it.
•        Add praise from others (use reviews if you have received any).
•        Put ordering information on a coupon at the bottom of the flyer.
•        Make sure your book is easy for the readers to buy.
•        Carry at least 25 flyers with you in a folder at all times.

i.    Contact book clubs that might be interested in having your book
as their featured Book of the Month. Most clubs meet at least 10
times per year and have more than 10 members. You could offer
to come to the discussions if your book is chosen.  Also, many
have on-line websites where they will promote your book to other
readers if they choose it as a Book of the Month selection. Some
will even review your book and promote it on their website even if
it’s not chosen as a Book of the Month selection.
